Intravitreal & Subtenon Steroid Injections
Description:
Intravitreal and Subtenon steroid injections are medical treatments used to manage inflammatory and non-inflammatory conditions affecting the eye. Both approaches involve delivering steroid medications to control inflammation, reduce swelling, and alleviate symptoms in the eye.
Intravitreal Steroid Injections: These involve injecting steroids directly into the vitreous cavity, the gel-like substance inside the eye. This method provides high local concentrations of the steroid, targeting conditions such as diabetic macular edema, retinal vein occlusion, and uveitis.
Subtenon Steroid Injections: These involve injecting steroids into the space beneath the Tenon's capsule, a membrane that covers the eye. This method is often used for managing conditions like uveitis or severe conjunctival inflammation. The steroid is distributed around the eye, providing broader anti-inflammatory effects.
Symptoms:
Intravitreal Steroid Injections:
Blurred Vision: Difficulty seeing clearly or experiencing visual distortions.
Eye Pain or Discomfort: Mild to moderate pain or discomfort in the eye.
Floaters: Presence of small specks or spots in the vision.
Redness and Irritation: Redness of the eye or surrounding areas, sometimes with a feeling of irritation.
Subtenon Steroid Injections:
Redness and Swelling: Redness and swelling of the eye or eyelid.
Eye Pain or Tenderness: Mild to moderate pain or sensitivity around the eye.
Blurred Vision: Changes in vision, including blurriness or difficulty focusing.
Increased Light Sensitivity: Discomfort or pain when exposed to bright lights.
